  25.  Note:  This is a work-in-progress.  There may be some issues not covered
  26.  in this readme, but still in the game.  These will be dealt with in the
  27.  final release version of the game.

  29. I) INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING AND RUNNING DARK FORCES DEMO:
  30.  
  31. To install the Dark Forces and Full Throttle Demos, type "cd lucasart"  from 
  32. your CD-ROM directory  (D:\ on most machines)  then RETURN. Next, type 
  33. "demo" and  RETURN. This will bring you to the install menu. From the install, 
  34. menu follow the on-screen instructions. Press "I" to install. This will 
  35. create a new directory on your C: drive called C:\LUCASART. When the install 
  36. is finished it will bring you to the options menu. From there you type "1" 
  37. to run Dark Forces. In the future, in order to get to the options menu, you 
  38. should type "demo" from the C:\LUCASART directory.   
  39.        
  40. II)USING THE MOUSE AND JOYSTICK IN THE GAME
  41. In order to use the mouse in the game, you must TURN IT ON AGAIN.  Go to 
  42. the configuration menu by pressing ESCAPE, type "c" to bring up the 
  43. configuration menu and then slide the mouse sensitivity bar TO THE RIGHT. 
  44. To calibrate the joystick type "j" and that will bring up your joystick  
  45. calibration

  47. III) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  48. - 486 Microprocessor or better recommended
  49. - 8 Megabytes of RAM
  50. - Sound Blaster TM-compatible or Pro AudioSpectrum TM sound card
  51. - Microsoft TM-compatible Mouse

  53. Note: DARK FORCES is a protect mode game this may cause problems if you are
  54. running EMM386 and HIMEM.SYS or other memory managers. SMARTDRV may also 
  55. cause problems.

  59. IV) MAKING A BOOTDISK FROM BOOTMKR.EXE:
  60.  
  61. A Boot Disk is  a floppy disk that, when inserted in your A:
  62. drive before startup, will load only the software necessary to play
  63. the samplers.  BOOTMKR requires a clean floppy disk that it may re-format
  64. and erase, so be sure to acquire a clean disk before making your boot disk.
  65. To run BOOTMKR,  press "6" from the main menu after typing  
  66. install.  Simply follow the instructions and voila! Your new boot disk is 
  67. ready for use.

  112. VI) FLIGHTSTICK PROtm AND THRUSTMASTERtm  FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM:

  119. The default setting for two button flightsticks is:

  129. Hat: If hat is enabled you must configure your joystick once in the game. 
  130. Use the configuration choice to calibrate the joystick and follow instructions

  136. VII) MOUSE CONTROL:

  142. To bring up the configuration menu press the "esc" key to bring up the 
  143. options menu and then type "c". The configuration screen will give you
  144. the following options:

  146. Screen Size-  Sliding the bar will adjust  your screen size. Decreasing the 
  147. screen will increase the speed.
  148.  
  149. Graphic Detail- Sliding the bar will adjust your graphic detail  Decreasing 
  150. the graphic detail will increase the speed.

  152. Ship Detail- Sliding the bar will adjust the detail of 3-D objects. Decreasing 
  153. the detail of 3-D objects will increase the speed.

  155. Gamma Correction- Sliding the bar will adjust the brightness of your monitor 
  156.  
  157. Mouse Sensitivity-  Determines how sensitive the mouse is to movement.

  159. Joystick- Toggles the joystick on and off 
  160.  
  161. Status Display- Toggles the HUD on and off
  162.  
  163. Invincibility- Toggles invincibility on and off, off makes your shields 
  164. vulnerable and invincibility on makes your shields invulnerable. If you 
  165. have invincible on you are safe from enemy fire but could still die in a fall.

  167. Sound F/X Volume- Sliding the bar controls the volume of the digital sounds.

  169. Music Volume- Sliding the bar which controls the volume of the music.

  172. IX) PERSONAL DATA ASSISTANT OR PDA:
  173.   
  174. You can access your PDA by pressing F1 on the keyboard. The display
  175. will overlay your viewscreen. You will see five buttons at the bottom 
  176. which , when clicked, access the five PDA functions (described below)
  177.  
  178. MAP- Displays all the territory you have already explored. The 
  179. [arrow display] or arrow keys on your keyboard move you around the map.
  180. The [zoom display] or the + or - keys on your keyboard allow you to zoom
  181. in or out for close up or overhead sho
